Today’s Young Christian Couples

My heart is in a burdened state right now.

My husband and I are in our mid 30’s. Which I think is still fairly young. We recently joined a younger Sunday School class that is aimed toward young 30 something couples. There is a good mix of the 30 age range.
It is widely known that this class is a class with troubled marriages. We see this as a ministering opportunity.

As I become friends with some of the women of these young couples on Facebook, it saddens me some of the activities that they are involved in outside of church. My question to my husband is, “With that type of lifestyle outside of church, why do they even bother coming to church?”. He responded by saying that they could be looking for validation in church and church is a safe place.

My husband and I have a passion for helping/mentoring couples; especially young couples just starting out. We feel that we have a lot to share from experience and from what God’s Word teaches us about our roles in marriage.

My husband is wise in saying that our first duty and call is to pray for these couples. Pray that Jesus will be Lord of their lives, that they will dispise the things of this world. Pray that Brian and I will live in such a way that reflects who Christ is, and that we will gain the trust and friendship of these couples to be able to speak into their lives.

Bid the older women similarly to be reverent and devout in their deportment as becomes those engaged in sacred service, not slanderers or slaves to drink. They are to give good counsel and be teachers of what is right and noble, so that they will wisely train the young women to be sane and sober of mind (temperate, disciplined) and to love their husbands and their children, to be self-controlled, chaste, homemakers, good-natured (kind-hearted), adapting and subordinating themselves to their husbands, that the word of God may not be exposed to reproach (blasphemed or discredited).
