The Seed of Abraham

…Then he cried out and said ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.’ Luke 16:24

The parable of The Rich Man and Lazarus was the focal point of our Pastor’s sermon this morning. His sermon was about Heaven and Hell. That’s not what THIS post is about.

One thing jumped out at me while he was reading the above passage…

The rich man called Abraham “Father”. So, it’s evident that the rich man knew who Abraham was because he called him Father Abraham. He, the rich man, was Abraham’s seed but didn’t heed or cling to the covenant that he had because of his ancestry.

I brought this to Brian’s attention and his immediate response was, “Wow, I can’t imagine our descendants not following Christ!”

We can’t make our children or children’s children make the decision to be a Christ follower, but I know that we can make the chances of it happening far greater when we ourselves are true Christ followers.

Until next time…
Be abundantly blessed!
