Zondervan provided me with a free copy of this book for reviewing purposes
The Ether: Vero Rising is categorized as Juvenile Fiction, but this is one that even I got into!
From the Inside Cover:
“Vero Leland always suspected he was different from others his own age, ever since his childhood attempts to fly. But he never could have predicted the truth – or how much his life was about to change…”
From the start there is excitement as Vero discovers that he’s not like the other kids. His mom knows that Vero isn’t “normal”.
With each chapter that we read, Vero’s story unfolds with unexpected twists.
“Vero caught the reflection of his eyes in the shiny blade. And in those eyes he no longer saw a timid young angel as the Archangel Uriel’s words came rushing back to him. “The opposite of faith is not doubt. The opposite of faith is fear.” And Vero would not give into fear. He wielded his sword at the demonic creature…” –Back Cover
As you can probably tell, this is a faith-based book.
Even though it is filled with spiritual warfare and the supernatural, it isn’t creepy or overbearing.
This is the first book in a while that my children have asked me to read before I was ready to settle down to read.
I even have to put it away between readings so that one of my sons wont read ahead of us!
If you’re looking for a Summer read aloud with your children, this would be a great place to start.
