The Emotion of Faith

I know that we don’t (or shouldn’t) live on emotions and feelings.
Those things change way too often to be reliable.
But we can use them to our advantage and still not be ruled by them though.

My Bible Fellowship Group (BFG) leader asked us our thoughts on our emotions toward God.
As several people chimed in about how they get excited, passionate, joyous, weepy, and overwhelmed by His goodness, the phrase, “It’s the emotion of faith!” came to mind!

We do get emotional when we know it’s the faith & trust we have in God that gets us through this life.

Whenever I read God’s word and look for a promise, my spirit gets excited because the expectancy is there and I know that I can trust Him! (2 Corinthians 1:20)

Whenever I pray, its in faith that I know my prayers are answered because I trust Him. (James 5:16b)

Whenever I praise and worship Him in song, it’s the emotion of faith that wells up and I feel His presence because I trust Him. (Psalm 16:11, Hebrews 13:15)

Are there times when faith seems emotionless?
If our season of being away from God goes too long, absolutely it will!

Our faith and trust in God will wane when we give too much time and attention to our problems and our enemy.

Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Since we also are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (emphasis added)

This is a time in conversation that if we were sitting face to face I’d lean in a little more.
I’d remind you of how much you are cared for and that you are not alone.
Loneliness and isolation doesn’t have to be a continuous state.
This would be the time that I pray for clarity and that you can move forward with power and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
This would be the time that I tell you that no, I don’t have many answers, but there is the Word of God and the Holy Spirit that can bring that Word to remembrance.
I’d also tell you that Jesus knows EXACTLY what it is that’s tempting you to make a certain decision; that thing that you’re desperately yelling at your mind to stop thinking about.
This would be the time that I’d say shut out all other things that make you stop, and just praise Him.
When you don’t FEEL like it….DO IT anyway!
Praise breaks down walls; literal and spiritual!
Praise gives God a place to live (Psalm 22:3)!
Praise stops cycles of complaining and grumbling.
Praise turns that ungratefulness around too!

Thank God in the emotion of faith; letting Him know that you trust Him.
He is for you. Let your faith help you realize that.

Father, I pray that whomever this is for will see that the emotion of faith is a good thing. Without faith it is impossible to please You. Faith in You is THAT important. You delight in us and You are seated in our praises. Lord, let us always have a home for You. Help us to clear the clutter and dust and remember Your faithfulness, and that You can be trusted. You are our only true way!
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
