I text my mom a couple days ago asking for her Pound Cake recipe.
She promptly shared it with me.
Moments later she called me.
Her words to me were: “I needed to call you because there are just some little details that you need to know that can’t be conveyed in a text message.”
The little details were her secrets to ensure that my cake will taste like her cake.
Her next phrase had me thinking about how I call on our Heavenly Father.
“You girls better get these recipes from me while you can.”
My mommy could leave us EVERY sheet of paper that a recipe is written on, but without the intricate details of how every recipe is rightly formed; those secret ways that she wants to tell us, the results aren’t guaranteed.
Her daughters have to HEAR her speak.
Write down and record the things she SAYS.
Remember them each time we bake one of her delicacies!
How am I hearing my Father? How do I go about getting those “recipes”?
We have every ingredient in His text; His Word that we need to live a godly life,
but there are the secret things, the intricate details that He wants to impart to us.
My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
