Forgetful. Not Forgetful

Pursuing What Is Excellent -- Forgetful. Not Forgetful.I forget things!

I’ve been that way since childhood.

I even had a keychain when I was in high school that read, “I suffer from CRS. Can’t Remember Stuff.”
(but unfortunately the Spencers kind. Hey. I was a worldly teen.)

I don’t remember a majority of my childhood.

It even carried over into my title as wife and into motherhood!

I don’t even remember my children’s birth weight!

My husband says that maybe I’m just wired that way.
My husband could sit for hours and tell stories of his childhood without missing a beat.
We determined that I was more of a “seer” than a doer.
I sat and observed and never really got involved.
There’s nothing really memorable about idleness.

All of that forgetfulness bothered me, y’all!
I asked God to help me to remember those things, but then said, “Nah. Never mind. I might start remembering things that I was remembering to forget!”
I polled a few of my friends and I found that I’m not in the forgetful camp by myself!

Before I could get too down on myself, the Holy Spirit reminded me (because He’s good like that):

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
John 14:26 (NKJV)

There are some things that God has told me, shown me, taught me, done for me that I’ll never forget.
That’s the stuff that’s ingrained in me, engraved on my heart.
Not that other events in my life aren’t important!
They are gifts from God and as much as I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it all..them (my family) all,
they are not eternal; temporal.
Jesus lives in me. We’re more one than my husband and I are one.
We’re tight! and I think that’s one of the reasons I’ve not forgotten anything that He’s put in me…because its of Him!

I do want to learn to be more mindful of important events and moments in my life because I do love my family and friends so much.
I will no longer claim forgetfulness as mine!

I want to leave you with a Scripture passage that speaks loudly to my soul! FORGET NOT!

and all that is within me, bless His

How do you remember things; the things beyond jotting down dates in your planner?
Do you journal?
Take lots of photos?
Rehearse the stories?
Do you find that being actively involved helps you to remember?
