Called To Love

Our church has started reading a devotional together designed specifically for our church called “God’s Purpose, Right Now”.
This weeks’ focus is Love.

I know that love is vital in my Christian walk. It seems though that I don’t think about being loving everyday.
I know that I love my husband, my children and my family and friends, but am I loving my husband, children, family and friends?

I catch myself just going through the motions of serving my family, but my actions aren’t filled with overflowing love.
I see the error of my ways and my aim is to resolve this and renew my mind to have the God kind of love for my family.

What does this look like?
John 13:34-35 says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 John 3:16,By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.”

The call to love as Christ loves may seem like a hefty assignment. But with His Spirit living in me, I have been equipped and empowered to walk in love in every action, thought and deed.
A renewal of my mind and repentance for not walking in love are the first steps to obedience to God’s Word.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Amen
