Do They Want It?

There was a phrase or two tumbling in my head on my drive home from dropping my oldest daughter off at work (my last time doing so…but more on that on my blog’s facebook page later).

You may be the only “Jesus” someone sees.
Preach the Gospel always, and when necessary, use words.
It has been a long time since I’ve prayed for a specific person’s salvation; for them to have a personal relationship with Christ.

It deeply touched my heart and sent me thinking about what is seen in me…and my fellow Christians; Christ-followers.

I ask you and myself these questions about how others may view our walk with Christ:

  • Am I approachable?
  • Do I walk around with my nose in the air?
  • Do I look/act like a hypocrite?
  • Am I quick to judge?
  • Do I share my messy-ness?
  • Am I trying to hide my short-comings so that I can appear to have it all together?
  • Do others wonder why I’m joyful? Do they want any of it?
  • Do I share God’s goodness without being snooty?
  • What could it be about my Christian walk that makes them decide that they don’t even need God?
  • Do I even open my mouth to say anything about God; or do I feel like my relationship with God is a private thing?

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Now I ask.
Why did people of the Bible so easily follow Jesus?

Jesus was compassionate. A genuine lover. Not condemning. Freely a grace-giver. Purposeful.

He offered mercy without using a gavel. He gave everlasting life that was sweet to the taste; appealing and appetizing, bread and water.

No more thirst. No more hunger.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10

Before a non-believer hears the gospel, they’re usually observing our lives.

Does the real Jesus show up or do they get the version that best suits us at the time?

Do they see religion (which I absolutely detest), a list of rules that we ourselves don’t follow but scoff at the non-believer that doesn’t even know to follow?

Lord, I pray that my life permeates with the outward evidence of YOU!

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.
Romans 1:16
By getting to know me better, are they really getting to know the Savior?
