Breaking the Bond of the Comparison Trap

Pursuing What Is Excellent -- Breaking the Bond of the Comparison Trap

I just KNEW that when I started going through Angie Tolpin’s online study, The Quiet Fight Among Women, that I’d be challenged in a very needed way!

I’m on Unit 3 right now (there are 8 units), The Comparison Trap.

Her statement, “Unrighteous jealousy can be the death of a friendship. It’s a symptom of discontentment.” instantly halted me!

I reached into my memory of when this was true for me.

Instead of striving for peace, I let my perception, which turned out to be wrong, get the best of me.

“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God;
lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble,
and by this many become defiled.”
Hebrews 12:14-15 (NKJV)

Instead of seeing the blessing that the homeschool mom that knows what she’s doing when it comes to her children’s education, I see it as a threat.
She could have been the very one that I needed in my life to help me “get it together”.
I allowed my feelings of inadequacy to keep me bound to the comparison trap.

Instead of asking my friend how she keeps her home so clean, I allowed shame to well up in me because I struggled with keeping a clean home all the time.

…Another great friendship that I killed because of unrighteous jealousy.

Its past time to break the bond of the comparison trap!
