A Book Review: City On Our Knees

When we step across the line we can sail across the sea
Amazing, beautiful things happen when people have the courage to live, work, and pray in the spirit of unity and peace. Often, though, to make these amazing things happen, we have to step out of our comfort zone and into a world we find uncomfortable or intimidating. Sometimes that world is physical; other times it can be emotional, relational, or spiritual.
City on Our Knees shows this, encouraging you to take the first step. It offers stories of people who have stepped across lines. Lines of discrimination, persecution, doubt, prejudice, pride, bitterness, self-isolation, and despair. I pray and hope that you will be inspired to see how just one person, or one small group, can be a mechanism for change.
God can use us right here. Right now. All we need is faith that He has our best in mind. And believe me—He does.
—TobyMac

The book that was birthed from the lyrics of a song. TobyMac is one of the most popular Christian artists of my time and today’s time. I knew him first when he was a member of the band DC Talk (My husband introduced me to the world of Christian music).
City On Our Knees by TobyMac is a collection of stories displaying the hearts of people of God help others with passion and ferver. Working to help worlds collide in unity.
It is clear where TobyMac’s heart is as he tells the stories throughout the pages; history lessons, modern martyrs, heroes for the faith, seemingly ordinary people doing God’s work.

God’s will is so much bigger than we think. Our purpose for being His children is spreading His love and the Gospel.
I wouldn’t normally purchase this type of book, but I’m glad that I picked it for review. It was meaty and a s-l-o-w read for me. I didn’t devour it because it was so intriguing to me, but it is inspirational.
I considered giving City On Our Knees a rating, but decided against in because everyone’s reading genre isn’t the same as mine. I’ll just say that this wasn’t the book for me, BUT may be the very book that sets someone else ablaze for Christ.
I DO like TobyMac’s music! We have his CDs. The music RAWKS!
